Integration of urban river Guadalmedina, Málaga contest "MORE RIVER, MORE TOWN"
The problem of the management of river Guadalmedina can not be focused on the simple gardening of its banks, or in vaulting operations, that cause its denaturation.
In any case, the main question will be to rediscover its "hidden picture", recovering the banks of the river as a transition space into the city. The urban character of the river should therefore go through the recognition of its geographical reality, redefining its river bank spaces.
The "barrier" is not the river, but on the contrary, their current floodwalls. The wall is a disturbing element of urban permeability. Canceling the “boxing” effect that cause the peripheral walls of the river is the beginning of the solution for the management of the channel, recovering its banks. The wall creates a useless space that has no solution with its landscaping (for difficult access to citizen use and lack of continuity urban), or with his vaulting (for serious maintenance problems and the disappearance of its "historical footprint "). Demolishing the river walls, is the beginning of the recovery of its banks, its integration, its permeability with the city and the support of the scenic "river-city" transparency.
All this pass trough a new way of managing the Limonero Reservoir, which was never conceived as a "dam" but, on the contrary, as a "reservoir regulator." Therefore, controlling the regulation of the reservoir is the origin of riverbed urbanization. Conceiving the reservoir as a dam would maintain a constant danger for the city, using it as a tool for water transfer would be a mistake, because it has not been designed for this function, in order to not cause any harm to the city. Managing the reservoir as "regulator" and not as "container" is the solution to achieve greater relationship city- river, greater discovering the riverbanks, enhancing "city building"
