Transformation of the Camí de Cabrianes
Notes on a regeneration project
REGENERATE v.tr.
Redo, return to the original state something that had degenerated.
This project is the first stage of regeneration of a road that connects the towns of Sallent and Cabrianes following the course of the Llobregat river.
Like any regeneration process, it is explained in three successive times: a past time, where the road and its banks defined a system of free spaces, easily accessible, perfectly integrated into their surroundings. A present time where the road is transformed into a heavy traffic highway, with serious accessibility deficiencies, which fractures the territory. A future time, imagined and projected as a return -not literal- to the past time.
This project is a de-construction process: opening the door to the landscape through the demolition of a concrete balustrade that defined a too explicit limit between infrastructure and landscape. De-materialization: reintegrating into the environment through a very low-impact construction resolved with local resources. Discovery: making the free spaces on the river bank accessible by cleaning and clearing them.
This project yearns for the citizen re-appropriation of the natural spaces on the left bank of the Llobregat, providing stairs, ramps and steps that resolve the transversal connection between the road and those spaces; the rehabilitation of the old riverside promenade and its banks, becoming civic spaces; the re-integration of infrastructure and nature through a low intensity intervention in an environment in permanent transformation that will soon impose its law to get rid of what is not fundamental.
