Park in the Prado Centro neighbourhood, Medellín
Life in the garden
Located on a moderately sloping site, the Prado Centro Park gently shapes the geography, generating successions of terraces where plant, animal and human populations are linked through the reuse of materials, the implementation of vernacular construction techniques and the generation of soil permeability for the infiltration and use of runoff water.
The project is a metaphor for what arises, becomes and grows naturally, it is based on the naturalisation of cultural action as a vital principle in the future of the city.
The project interprets for the first time in the city urban policies of sustainable construction through three specific actions.
+ Not demolishing, but dismantling the existing material on the site itself in order to reorganise, regroup and reuse it in different processes for the construction of the new park, giving new meaning to the material. Reducing the pressure of waste in landfills and minimising the demand for new inputs.
+ Changing the model of runoff water management in the city by retaining and infiltrating water in the gardens and using it for irrigation, strengthening the growth rate of the selected vegetation and its permanence over time.
+ Rescue of vernacular building traditions and recursive use of second-generation materials, seeking to bring public works closer to the public as a constructive example for the population.

Planur-e: www.planur-e.es es una revista digital editada en España en materias de territorio, urbanismo, sostenibilidad, paisaje y diseño urbano. Nació con el objetivo de exponer buenas prácticas dando voz a los profesionales, planteando que sean los propios autores de los trabajos quienes los presenten. Se colabora así a su difusión, al tiempo que se ofrece, a aquellos que se aproximan al proyecto, la oportunidad de ver otras formas de trabajar y contrastar sus propias reflexiones y propuestas. Planur-e por sus características pretende llenar un hueco, dada la escasez de publicaciones en estas materias. Alcanza en este momento su número diez, con un planteamiento monográfico y da, al tiempo, en su Miscelánea cabida a múltiples temas. Cuenta ya con un número importante artículos alrededor de 150, hasta el momento, y con autores de muy distintos países, lo que enriquece su tarea de divulgación.
