Laboratory to promote, manage and design a suburban Multifunctional Green Infrastructure
La Vora de Girona is an applied research project promoted by the Girona City Council and EMF, which conceives the city from the infrastructural potential of the landscape. The hypothesis is that the naturban spaces on the outskirts of the city, laid out in the form of multifunctional green infrastructure, can constitute the largest public facility in the contemporary conurbation and that differentiated management is an ideal tool to trigger the process of renewal of the gaze. to this enlarged city, which recovers its fluvial and mountainous facades.
The masterplan is the global vision of the edge project planning. It defines the green infrastructure as a whole, as well as the general action criteria for the system to form a functional network of natural spaces. Its purpose is to act as a malleable roadmap, contextualizing partial projects and prefiguring future management areas. It is articulated based on the two main existing geographical elements, urban protected, of the city: the river system and the mountain system. It highlights connectivity and ecological and citizen continuity, claiming the infrastructural potential of the landscape as a provider of ecosystem services. The framework project, on the outskirts of Girona, is imagined both as a sum of living experiences and as a way of projecting on the fly. A relative work, determined and open to different interventions, with the capacity to adapt. The validation of the framework project has been carried out jointly with municipal technicians, town councils, with field work sessions and with the FAVG.
