The revision and adaptation of the General Plan of Ferrol
A project for the post-crisis city
The city of Ferrol maintains an urban structure characterized by the absence of a clear center according to the radial model, in which the growth, of linear component, configured an urban plot composed of the succession of neighborhoods, of great heterogeneity among themselves. Neighborhoods of marked unitary character are intermingled with others of more diffuse traits.
The economic and functional crisis, with residential relocation, is producing a notable weakening of the urban functions carried out by the city of Ferrol, which are not replaced by new centralities that are characteristically urban in the outer spaces of growth. In parallel, it is necessary to reflect on the new edges and limits of the continuous city, delimiting and assigning new functions so that the organization allows to define a structure of nodes of functional diversification.
In a process of recovery of the real city in the center and its periphery, Ferrol must provide the highest urban quality, beginning with the filling and execution of planning committed to high standards, and developing in the built space of the Ensanches, a process of requalification of public space that generalizes the actions developed in recent years. The future passes through more urbanity.
