Space and social cohesion. Paisaje Vallecas
The project Paisaje Infantil (Children’s Landscape) within the context of Paisaje Vallecas is a proposal of collaborative work for the revitalization of the neighbourhood of Palomeras Sureste (Madrid).
The work focuses on two vacant spaces of proximity with two associations dedicated to childhood: The Association of families El Zofío and the Association of leisure and free time for children Krecer. The Palomeras Sureste Neighbourhood Association, whose headquarters are located in one of the pedestrian spaces, also joined to the project.
The value of the transformation of both spaces lies not so much in the tangible results in the physical space but in the process of interaction between the agents involved and the search for synergies with a common project.
The revitalization is achieved with a slow work, more than a year in which decisions are made about the events to be celebrated and the elements to be incorporated in the places chosen for its transformation.
The changes are materialized with the incorporation of elements of shade and furniture and with the treatment of the pavement to add children's games and vindicative texts of the neighbours about the neighbourhood.
The result aims to achieve places with a greater identity, where it is possible to incorporate a new use and, therefore, provide a space for collective use.
